Army installs new division commanders in Luzon, Visayas


The Philippine Army has installed two of its generals to lead infantry divisions in Luzon and the Visayas in a bid to further improve internal security in the country.

Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong, was named as the new commander of the 2nd Infantry Division based in Tanay, Rizal while Maj. Gen. Camilo Z. Ligayo assumed the leadership of the 8th Infantry Division based in Catbalogan, Samar.

Ligayo, a member of the Philippine Military Academy 1989, replaced Brig. Gen. Zosimo Oliveros in a turnover ceremony presided by Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner, Jr.

Ligayo served as the Army's 34th Vice Commander before he was tapped to lead the 8th Infantry Division.

He held key positions throughout his career such as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs of the Armed Forces of the Philippines; Brigade Commander of the 801st Infantry Brigade, 8th Infantry Division; Chief of Staff of the AFP Central Command which is now the Visayas Command; Acting Chief of Staff of the 7th Infantry Division (7ID); and Commanding Officer of 71st Infantry Battalion, 7ID.

Capulong, on the other hand, replaced Brig. Gen. Rommel K. Tello who acted as the division commander and concurrent assistant division commander.

A member of PMA Class 1990, Capulong served as the Chief of Staff of the Philippine Army. He exhibited excellent leadership skills as he handled key positions such, as the Acting Army Vice Commander; Acting Commander of the 6th Infantry Division; Senior Military Adviser to the Secretary of National Defense; Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans, G5; Secretary Army General Staff; and Brigade Commander of the 602nd Brigade.
