PH Red Cross' volunteers, relief assets on standby for 'Obet'
The volunteers, rescue and relief assets, and equipment of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) are already on standby for the anticipated heavy rains that tropical depression Obet may bring to some parts of the country.

In a statement on Friday, Oct. 21, PRC said that among the readied assets were its food trucks, relief goods, water tankers, and payloaders.
The organization also noted that ambulances, generators, and rescue equipment have been pre-positioned in vulnerable areas.
As of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)'s 11 a.m. bulletin, "Obet" is continuously heading west toward the Luzon Strait and will "likely to pass over or very close to Batanes" on Friday afternoon.
The tropical depression was last seen 205 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes moving westward at 20 kilometers per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised by the weather bureau over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana and Gonzaga).
"Throughout the passage of Obet, strong winds (strong breeze to near gale strength) may be experienced within any of the areas where Wind Signal No. 1 is hoisted. However, the hoisting of Wind Signal No. 2 (for gale-force winds) remains possible should Obet reach tropical storm category prior or during its traverse of the Luzon Strait—a scenario that is not ruled out at this time," PAGASA added.
