'Cheated and used': Group slams DepED for undistributed laptops for teachers
A group of education workers expressed disappointment over the “endless incompetence” of the Department of Education (DepED) on the matter of overpriced and outdated laptops for teachers.

“We cannot help but feel cheated and used in this project,” said Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Philippines Spokesperson Roel Mape.
ACT Philippines lambasted DepED anew as the Commission on Audit (COA) reported to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee that about 70 percent of the laptops allotted to the DepEd Central Office remain undistributed.
“Ginamit lang kaming dahilan para mabigyan ng pondo ang proyekto pero sa katotohanan ay iba ang nakinabang sa iba’t ibang paraan (We were just used as an excuse to fund the project but in reality others benefited in different ways),” Mape said.
ACT also decried the “negligence and corruption” in DepED while many teachers are still borrowing money to buy a laptop to be used for teaching.
Meanwhile, ACT also demanded the DepED divulge how many laptops went to classroom teachers, questioning the allocation of large numbers of laptops to offices instead of schools.
As the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on the DepEd laptop anomaly reaches its final stages, ACT demanded accountability from all officials who were “found to have benefited from or at the least slacked on their duties” in connection to the project.
