BACOLOD CITY – A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) involved in the series of encounters in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental voluntarily surrendered to the Army 94th Infantry Battalion (IB) on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

The Army said that he carried the firearms of eight wounded comrades after the encounters in Barangay Carabalan from Oct. 6 to 12.
He was separated from the group when they scampered in different directions to escape pursuing troops.
The communist rebel surrendered two M16A1 rifles with ammunition and magazines to the Army.
Major Gen. Benedict Arevalo, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division (ID), lauded the NPA for surrendering to the government and hopes that more will follow suit.
