The annual summit gathered various LGUs from across the country to honor their accomplishments in “promoting the culture of competitiveness” in their respective cities and municipalities.

To determine the winners, the Competitiveness Bureau of the DTI uses the “Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI),” which is the organization’s annual ranking tool.

It was developed by the National Competitiveness Council through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) with the assistance of USAID.

They are ranked based on their overall competitiveness score, comprising of the following components: economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, and resiliency

The awards for the “Most Improved LGU” category were given to the LGUs that have improved their rankings from the 2021 CMCI cycle to this year’s cycle.

The Marikina LGU shared the top spot with Iloilo City. The LGUs of Mandaluyong and Malabon ranked second in the category. Lucena City in Quezon Province ranked third.

Since the establishment of the CMCI in 2012 as a basis and measurement of competitiveness in the country 2012, the number of participating LGUs have grown from 285 in 2013 to 1,389 in 2016.

The summit was held in partnership with the International Council for Small Business Philippines, Globe Business, UnionBank of the Philippines, Dynamic Global Soft Inc., Grab, Junca Holdings, Maximilian Advisers, CIBI Information, Inc., PJ Lhuiller, Inc., Isoc Holdings, Shopee, Bexcs Logistics Solutions, ICity Technologies Inc., Business Innovations Gateway Inc., Newport World Resort, BNI Philippines, and 360NextGen.
