Senator Risa Hontiveros on Thursday, October 20 welcomed the blocking of 20 websites that violated the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) Law.
“The new Anti-OSAEC Law is working,” Hontiveros said in a statement.
“As a principal author of the law, this is a very positive development in our fight against OSAEC,” she further said.
As of now, Hontiveros said these 20 websites that distribute child sexual abuse and exploitation materials on the internet have already been blocked.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has also given her office copy of the links of the OSAEC websites that have been taken down.
According to the NBI Cybercrime division, PLDT Co. was able to immediately give in to Hontiveros’ request to shut down OSAEC websites, and has vowed to take down all links and photos related to it.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa NBI at sa private sector tulad ng PLDT sa agarang aksyon (I’m thankful to the NBI and to the private sector, like PLDT, for taking immediate action),” she said.
“It gives me joy to see all of us working together to truly shut down OSAEC. Dahil sa ating pagtutulungan at pagkakaisa, tiyak na mas marami tayong mapagtatagumpayan para sa ating mga anak (With unity, we can overcome all of these for the sake of our children),” the lawmaker stressed.
At the same time, Hontiveros renewed her call for the public to immediately report any OSAEC cases they know to law enforcers, especially to the NBI.
“Patuloy tayong mag-ambagan nang tuluyan nang matuldukan ang pang-aabuso at pansasamantala sa ating mga bata (Let us all make our contribution in helping put a stop to the abuses committed on our children),” she said.
