2 dead after car plunges into irrigation canal in Kalinga


TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Two provincial government employees died when their car fell into an irrigation canal in Barangay Tanglag here on Thursday, Oct. 20.

Police identified the victims as Gerald Tomas Gagelonia, 36, nurse at the Kalinga Provincial Hospital and the driver of the car, and Marlon Agnaya, a provincial capitol staff.

Romeo Vargas Dequeros, 56, owner of the house near the scene of the crash, told the Traffic Management Unit of the Tabuk City Police Station that he was awakened by the loud barking of a dog outside.

He checked outside but saw nothing out of place.

Dequeros woke up in the morning at 8 a.m. and saw a vehicle submerged in the irrigation canal and called the police for help.

The victims, residents of this city, were taken to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital here but were declared dead on arrival by attending physician, Dr. Goldamear Chulsi Maling.

Police determined in an investigation that the accident occurred at 12:20 a.m.
