Ray Parks dazzles anew as other Filipino players suffer losing debuts
Ray Parks Jr. continued to provide solid contributions as Nagoya Diamond Dolphins made a repeat against Mikawa SeaHorses while other Filipino players suffered defeats right on their first games in the Japan B.League on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Parks followed up his solid debut with 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting to help the Dolphins repulse the SeaHorses, 84-74, to stay unbeaten through two games in the brand new 2022- ‘23 season.
Parks’ stellar outing was exactly the support Nagoya needed as Coty Clarke also sustained his impressive start with 20 points, six rebounds and two assists while Scott Eastherton added 16 points and 11 boards.
Aside from Parks, Jay Washington also made a winning debut although he only played five minutes, scoring two points in Ryukyu Golden Kings’ 81-52 demolition of defending champions Utsunomiya Brex.
Former PBA import Allen Durham showed the way for Ryukyu with 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
Not as fortunate as Washington and Parks were the rest of the Filipino players.
Matthew Wright had a forgettable debut as he went scoreless and missed all of his six shots from the field in 22 minutes. Kyoto Hannaryz suffered a 92-65 beatdown at the hands of Sendai 89ers.
The Ravena brothers, likewise, were also on the losing end in their debuts. Kiefer Ravena scored 12 points and eight assists but the Shiga Lakes still fell to Gunma, 88-80, while Thirdy Ravena couldn’t even muster a single point in his 19 minutes of play in San-En Neophoenix’s loss to Kawasaki Brave Thunders, 87-85.
Dwight Ramos, on the other hand, led a spirited comeback in the fourth quarter but Levanga Hokkaido still fell short, 95-90, to Akita Happinets. The Gilas Pilipinas star dropped eight of his 15 points in the payoff period as he tried to will Hokkaido back from 13 points down.
La Salle standout Justine Baltazar, meanwhile, rode the bench as the Hiroshima Dragonflies fell to Yokohama B-Corsairs, 96-89.
In the second division, Jordan Heading began his career in the Land of the Rising Sun as Nagasaki Velca defeated Kumamoto Volters, 88-77. The Fil-Aussie sniper only shot 2-of-7 from beyond the arc but finished with 14 points, three assists and two rebounds.
Kobe Paras, meanwhile, was a DNP in Altiri Chiba’s 85-83 win while both Greg Slaughter and Roosevelt Adams were still not with their teams for the opening weekend.
