Miranda fires clutch three as Ateneo escapes FEU
Six-time reigning champion National University displayed its tip-top shape and crushed University of the East with an 84-point drubbing, 131-47, in the UAAP Season 85 women's basketball tournament Sunday, Oct. 2 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Lady Bulldogs, behind the efforts of Camille Clarin, Karl Pingol, and Tin Cayabyab, stretched their historic streak to 97 wins dating back to 2014.
NU's points also marked history in the league's women's basketball, tallying the most points made since the computerization of stats and surpassing University of Santo Tomas' 129-point outing against University of the Philippines last September 22, 2018.
The Bulldogs zoomed in from the get-go, leading 38-11 in the first quarter before another 30-point explosion in the second period to lead by as many as 55 points, 68-13.
NU showed no mercy and hit the century mark even with less than two minutes to go in the third quarter.
"We're just happy na bumalik na 'yong basketball for women's, ang tagal naming hinintay and I wanna congratulate the girls for starting this season with a convincing win," said Lady Bulldogs coach Aris Dimaunahan, who replaced Pat Aquino, after his record-breaking debut.
Clarin led all scorers with 22 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, Pingol chalked up 16 points, six rebounds, and six steals, Cayabyab contributed 14 points while Annick Tiky had 11 points and eight rebounds in her first and last year for the Bulldogs.
Joyce Terrinal and Kamba Kone paced the Lady Warriors with 10 points apiece.
In the second game, Ateneo escaped with a 67-64 win against Far Eastern University courtesy of LJ Miranda's clutch and go-ahead three with 18.2 seconds left.

The Lady Tamaraws came alive in the second half after crawling from 14 points down but Angel Obien's last-second three for a possible overtime went too strong.
Miranda led the Blue Eagles with 17 points along with eight rebounds while Jhaz Joson went all-out with 14 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
"I had to understand that I was expecting this that we will be full of jitters. Outside of Jhaz, 15 of our players have not even really played here in MOA," said Ateneo head coach LA Mumar.
Do-it-all rookie Kacey Dela Rosa also provided the spark for Ateneo and delivered 14 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks, and three steals.
Camille Taguiam spearheaded FEU with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists in a losing effort.
