Two fire trucks and ambulances were sent by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to a residential fire in Barangay Tonsuya, Malabon City last Oct. 16.

Hot meals were also distributed to 300 affected individuals who sought temporary shelter in Tonsuya Covered Court through the coordination of PRC Malabon Chapter and the city's local government unit.
"In times of disasters, food insecurity can affect the nutritional status of affected families. PRC's Hot Meals on Wheels will continue to provide life-saving nutritious food to vulnerable people affected," said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon.
PRC noted that its Emergency Response Unit and food trucks are part of its humanitarian response to ensure the availability of basic needs of the most vulnerable communities, particularly in times of emergency.
A total of 54 houses were destroyed and 141 families were left homeless, said PRC.
The fire, which origin is yet to be determined, started at around 1:50 a.m. as per the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
It reached the second alarm at 1:59 a.m. and raised to the third alarm at around 2:14 a.m.
