The agricultural damage caused by Typhoon “Neneng” in Northern Luzon has already reached P366 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) revealed Wednesday, Oct. 19.
In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said Neneng destroyed 27,641.21 metric tons of agricultural goods with a total production loss of P366,058,240.16 in Ilocos Region (Region 1), Cagayan Valley (Region 2), and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
A total of 14,578 farmers and fisherfolk were affected by the typhoon.
Among those destroyed were 19,167.29 hectares of rice, corn, and high-value crops as well as poultry and livestock.
Region 2 was the hardest hit as it sustained an agricultural loss of P354,449,524.78; while Region 1 incurred P7,687,525.38 agricultural damage and CAR with P3,921,190.
Most of the destruction was noted in Cagayan province with more than 18,500 hectares of rice, corn, high-value crops, and livestock and poultry affected by Neneng, affecting 13,000 farmers and fisherfolk.
In Ilocos Norte, Region 1, more than 503 hectares of crops were damaged in the municipalities of Laoag and Bacarra, affecting 1,124 farmers and fisherfolks.
In CAR, tilapia produce, rice, and yellow and white corn were among those damaged in the provinces of Ifugao, Apayao, and Mountain Province. A total of 150 hectares of crops and fisheries, and 181 farmers and fisherfolk were affected in the region.
Meanwhile, infrastructure damage remained at P81,555,000 in Regions 1, 2, and CAR.
The number of affected population has increased to 50,248 families composed of 175,275 individuals from 434 barangays. As of Wednesday, 163 families or 578 individuals were still staying in 12 evacuation centers across the three affected regions.
