Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval led on Tuesday, Oct. 18, the distribution of computer tablets to 195 students at Epifanio Delos Santos Elementary School (EDSES) in Barangay Tugatog in the city.
“Napapanahon nang mas mahasa sa tamang paggamit ng gadget sa pag-aaral ang mga mag-aaral dahil ito ang hamon ng digitalization. Nagawa natin ito sa mga online class sanhi ng Covid-19 pandemic, at napatunayang kaya nating pagtulungang magawa ito (It is time for students to sharpen the skills in the proper usage of gadgets in learning because this is the challenge of digitalization. We have done this with online classes due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and we have proven that we can work together to do this),” Sandoval said.
The tablets, funded through the city’s Special Education Fund, were handed over to the parents of qualified Grades 4 and 5 students while the Grade 6 students personally received their devices.
The mayor asked for the cooperation of parents and teachers to ensure that the students are effectively using the devices for their learning.
She also assured that her administration is always working with the Department of Education (DepEd) with regards to city’s needs for education.
The city government said the project supports the DepEd’s Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) that promotes blended learning (face-to-face and online) and digitalization of education for the students amid the Covid-19 pandemic (new normal).
It added that the first beneficiaries were registered under the Schools Division Memorandum No. 066 s. 2022 that aims to provide equal opportunities for learners to receive gadgets for their education, ensure that they take care and use the devices properly before returning them at the end of the school to be passed to the next user.
“Malaki ang aming pasasalamat kay Mayor Sandoval na agad isinagawa ang proyektong ito, at umaasa kaming hindi ito ang huli, bagkus madadagdagan pa para sa mga nangangailangang mag-aaral sa hinaharap (We are very grateful to Mayor Sandoval for immediately implementing this project, and we hope that this will not be the last, instead there will be more for the students in need in the future),” DepEd-Malabon City Public Schools District Supervisor Adelaida Alejo said.
The city government said the parents of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the project that will help their children for their education.
Sandoval also urged the Grade 6 students to be role models of the younger learners and to work harder in their studies to succeed in their lives.
She also ensured that the city government will work with the parents and teachers of students in every school in the city to further develop their education.
“Ang tagumpay ng bawat estudyante sa kanilang mga pangarap ay malaking ambag sa ikauunlad ng pamayanan at ng buong lungsod (The success of each student is a great contribution to the improvement of the community and the entire city),” the mayor said.
