Local carriers welcome fuel surcharge downgrade

Local carriers Wednesday (October 19) welcomed the Civil Aeronautics Board’s (CAB) mandate to downgrade the fuel surcharge (FSC) rate from the current level 9 to Level 8 starting this November, expecting it to boost travel demand this holiday season.

"We are pleased to comply," remarked Philippine Airlines (PAL) Spokesperson Cielo Villaluna.

"We shall implement the adjustments to our fuel surcharges in line with the latest CAB directive. The adjusted fuel surcharges apply to tickets that will be purchased in November," she elaborated.

"This piece of good news comes at a time when we are increasing flight capacity across our domestic and international route networks," Villaluna stated.

The FSC downgrade highly benefits guests traveling this holiday season, according to AirAsia Philippines Spokesperson and Head of Communications and Public Affairs Steve Dailisan.

This lowers the FSC cost to the metro cities of Cebu and Davao to P503 and P708 from October’s P571 and P782, respectively, he explained.

"We’re expecting this new FSC rate to drive the demand further," Dailisan confirmed.

"At AirAsia, we’re expecting to meet a high average of 90 to 95 percent in domestic load factor this Q4," he added.

To make travel more affordable as demand peaks, the bufget carrier is implementing regular promos near the end of the year.

Currently, AirAsia Philippines is running its 20 percent OFF promo for guests traveling from November 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023 which can be booked through the airasia Super App until October 23.

"We are glad to enable more friends and families to celebrate the most joyous season together," Dailisan concluded.
