Duterte: DepED in talks with other agencies to produce ‘job-ready’ SHS graduates

Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte on Wednesday, Oct. 19, said that the Department of Education (DepED) is currently in talks with various agencies to help ensure that the graduates of the K to 12 program will be ready for employment.

“We are still continuing our meetings and discussion on how to make our Grade 12 graduates ready for employment,” said Duterte in an interview on the sidelines of the 48th Philippine Business Conference and Expo.

Duterte noted that the graduates of the Senior High School (SHS) Program may not be ready for employment this school year, noting that DepED is still taking into consideration the suggestions from other agencies such as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) --- among others.

“Meron pa kaming ginagawa na kailangan nating ayusin sa K to 12 program para sa ating mga graduates (We still have some things we need to fix in the K to 12 program for our graduates),” Duterte said.

While DepED is working on this, Duterte also asked the business sector to prioritize the hiring of K to 12 graduates once they have been deemed ready for employment.

After completing the K to 10 review, DepED is scheduled to start the review of the SHS Program or Grades 11 and 12 this November.
