The University of San Agustin (USA) College of Law will represent the Philippines at the upcoming regional rounds of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Competition to be held in Hong Kong in March 2023.
This is after USA won over the University of the Philippines at the recent 16th National Moot Court Competition on IHL organized by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
This event "aims to provide a venue for law students to become acquainted with and proficient in IHL issues," said PRC.
"IHL (International Humanitarian Law) is very relevant in the Philippines. The cases of armed conflict have resulted in the Philippines becoming a leading example in Asia in terms of domestic legislation which implement the Philippines obligations on the IHL," stated ICRC Deputy Head of Delegation Boris Michel.
In a statement, PRC added that the USA bagged the Best Memorial and Best Defense Memorial Awards, and Ervin S. Caro and Ancel D'Cunha also took home the 2nd Best Mooter and Best Mooter awards.
D'Cunha, additionally, received the Justice Leonor Ines Luciano Best Mooter Award at the competition's final round.
Moreover, the Philippine National Police Academy, which was the only non-law school that participated in the event since 2015 won the Role-Play Challenge of the said contest and will represent the country in the Jean-Pictet Role Play Competition in Albania in February 2023.
The competition was held last Oct. 14 at the Microtel by Wyndham, Mall of Asia.
