Shear line brings scattered rains, thunderstorms over Batanes, Babuyan Islands

The shear line—a region where warm and cold winds converge—will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 18.
According to PAGASA, the occurrence of moderate to heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides in areas affected by the shear line.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also continues to monitor a low pressure area (LPA) east of extreme Northern Luzon.
The LPA was located 1,085 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon at 3 p.m., Tuesday.
PAGASA weather specialist Patrick Del Mundo said the LPA may less likely to develop into a tropical depression in 24 hours.
However, he said PAGASA is still not ruling out the possibility of the LPA becoming a tropical cyclone.
Should it become a tropical cyclone inside the Philippine area of responsibility, PAGASA will give the weather disturbance a local name “Obet.”
Del Mundo said PAGASA will continue to monitor this LPA.
