Exuberant Leyte town mayor happy to see unity among his constituents
MATAG-OB, Leyte – For Mayor Bernandino ‘Bernie’ Tacoy, his biggest accomplishment so far in his first 100 days in office is uniting the people for the first time in years.
Mayor Tacoy noted that the people’s unity and teamwork resulted in the town drawing more tourists, especially during the successful 1st Himorasak Festival.
"We are investing in our human capital because we want our people to dream and their perspective in life,” said Tacoy, visibly impressed with the town’s remarkable transformation made possible by development and tourism projects.
“We want them to be the best version of themselves," added Mayor Tacoy, citing that they have put a premium on education for the future of their children.
In his report on his first 100 days in office, Tacoy acknowledged Matag-ob as being one of the poorest among the 40 municipalities in Leyte province but is now on the right track to progress.
Tacoy also revealed his administration is also working on providing his constituents with a better, quality education, particularly to children with special needs.
The mayor said that among their top priorities he is targeting to achieve within this year is the construction of farm-to-market roads to make all 21 barangays accessible and build better quality infrastructure.
"During the campaign, we have noticed that we lack access roads, which hamper the delivery of our agricultural products to the market. Hopefully, we can work on that in our first year," he said.
In terms of business and trade, he said that more investors have expressed intention to invest in Matag-ob since they have immediately reorganized their structural system to streamline government transactions.
Meanwhile, the neophyte politician admitted that there are many things that they still need to do for the municipality, however, they are still learning the process since most of the recently elected officials are also new in politics.
"As a businessman, I had to adjust since before, I could just go anywhere anytime. But now I always have to think about Matag-ob wherever I may go. I need to be here where my obligations are," he said.
