Aboitiz Power provides power needs of BPO firm Teleperformance

Listed firm Aboitiz Power Corporation has inked a deal to provide the electricity service needs of business process outsourcing (BPO) firm Teleperformance Philippines via the former’s retail electricity supplier (RES) unit Advent Energy Inc.

In a statement to the media, Aboitiz Power indicated that it will initially supply the electricity service requirements of the Bacolod and Sucat offices of Teleperformance – and that comes with a prospect to expand the agreement in the future.

The power firm added that the electricity supply procurement underwritten by the BPO company will be from the “Cleanergy’ brand of Aboitiz Power, which entails then that this will be drawn from its renewable energy (RE) generation portfolio.

Sandro Aboitiz, senior vice president for Commercial Operations of Aboitiz Power, said “this partnership with Teleperformance affirms our efforts to emphasize the impact retail electricity customers have in preserving the environment through the kind of energy they choose.”

The RE capacities of Aboitiz Power are from its run-of-river hydro, solar, geothermal as well as large-scale hydro facilities that are sited in various parts of the country.

According to Teleperformance Philippines Chief Executive Officer Francisco Lara, the company’s move to source electricity supply from clean technology will be part of their initiative in nation building and in taking a “step further by adding climate action as part of our commitment to the environment, which we call the Citizen of the Planet initiative.”

Being a key player in the BPO industry that has been providing jobs to thousands of career-seekers, the Teleperformance executive pointed out that “transitioning to renewable energy is easy,” especially so since it was conscious choice on the company’s part to engage a reliable RES-partner that can thoroughly guide them through the process.

By patronizing RE in meeting the energy-intensive needs of their day-and-night business grind, the BPO firm emphasized that they would be able to “leave (a) mark as one of the first BPOs in the nation to use RE in their operations.”

On that score then, Lara expressed hope that “this action will inspire other BPOs in the country to be as environmentally conscious and consider switching to RE.”

Separately, Aboitiz pointed out that the country’s strong push for energy transition “involves the convergence of many things -- among which are the choices consumers make, supportive government policies, and the participation of industry players.”

He noted that one platform to a greener future for the Philippines and its consumers will be via the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), which is a policy toolbox being advanced by the Department of Energy (DOE) to broaden the market base of RE.

As a participant in the GEOP space, Aboitiz stated that “we can collaborate with various industries under a long-term goal of achieving business sustainability and energy security through Cleanergy."

The GEOP empowers consumers in the 100-kilowatt consumption band and higher to choose RE as their power supply source; and this program is also highly regarded as a linchpin toward achieving the goals set forth under the Renewable Energy Act and on the overall decarbonization strategy of the world to abate climate change risks.
