Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo reaffirmed the Supreme Court’s (SC) support to five instruments which have been adopted by the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), an inter-governmental organization that administers several international conventions, protocols and soft law instruments.
The Philippines is a party to five HCCH instruments – the 1961 Apostille Convention, the 1965 Service Convention, the 1980 Child Abduction Convention, the 1993 Adoption Convention, and the 2007 Child Support Convention.
Gesmundo’s reaffirmation was aired during the courtesy call on Monday, Oct. 17, by HCCH delegates led by Secretary General Dr. Christophe Bernasconi and Deputy Secretary General Dr. Gérardine Goh Escolar.
The Philippines’ SC is a co-host of the HCCH Asia Pacific Week to be held in Makati City from Oct. 18 to 20, 2022.
The SC’s public information office (PIO) said the three-day conference, with the theme “Enabling Cross-Border Cooperation in the Region and Beyond,” seeks to help participants learn more about the HCCH and engage with private international law experts from all over the Asia Pacific region;
SC Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier will talk on the 1980 Child Abduction Convention and the 1996 Child Protection Convention, while Court Administrator Raul B. Villanueva will act as one of the panelists on the 1965 Service Convention.
With Chief Justice Gesmundo during the courtesy call were Senior Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen, and Justices Ramon Paul L. Hernando, Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, Henri Jean Paul B. Inting, Mario V. Lopez, Ricardo R. Rosario, Jhosep Y. Lopez, Jose Midas P. Marquez, and Antonio T. Kho, Jr.
