ILOILO CITY – The National Housing Authority (NHA) has started the construction of a P300-million housing project for informal settlers here.

NHA General Manager Joeben Tai and Iloilo City Rep. Julienne “Jam-Jam” Baronda led the groundbreaking for the five separate low-rise buildings in Barangay Tabuc Suba in Jaro District.
According to Baronda, the 300 housing units are for the informal settlers who will be displaced by the various infrastructure projects of the Iloilo City government.
Tai said the housing units are not for free, but recipients have to pay very minimal fee per month or as low as P500 monthly.
The Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO) will validate potential beneficiaries for the housing project, which is being built with funding from the NHA corporate fund.
Baronda, who lobbied for the project during the Duterte administration, said there will also be a multi-purpose building and gym in the housing area.
She thanked Sen. Bong Go, Sen. JV Ejercito, former Secretary Wendell Avisado of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), and former NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada for paving the way for the housing project.
