A situational report released by the NDRRMC showed that 7,519 families composed of 27,914 individuals were affected by Neneng from Cagayan Valley (Region 2), Ilocos Region (1), and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Of the number, 199 families or 721 individuals were being served in 32 evacuation centers while 86 families or 277 individuals opted to stay with their relatives’ or friends’ house.

In Cagayan province, a rain-induced landslide occurred in Brgy. Parabba, Penablanca municipality. Luckily, no one was hurt in the incident as clearing operations were ongoing.

Fifty-nine areas in Cagayan were flooded due to heavy rains dumped by Neneng over the weekend. As of writing, flood in 14 areas have subsided while waters in the remaining areas have started receding.

A state of calamity was declared in Sta. Ana, Cagayan due to massive flooding in all of its 15 barangays.

“Sobrang buhos ng ulan po. Considering na ang Sta. Ana ay may mga tributaries po, yung mga creeks na ang pinanggagalingan po ay bundok, bumaba po sa ilog namin (The rain was really strong. Considering that Sta. Ana has tributaries and creeks that come from the mountain, it all went down on our river),” said Marion Miranda, chief of the Sta. Ana municipal disaster risk reduction and management office (MDRRMO), in a radio interview over dzMM.

The NDRRMC has started an assessment to determine the extent of damage in infrastructure and agriculture left by Neneng.

“Medyo marami na rin ang nakapag-ani kaya medyo kaunti na lang ang natirang palayan at kaunti rin ang nadamage pero ang mga naapektuhan po ay mga gulay at corn (Many farmers have already reaped from their rice fields so the damage was minimal but what really was affected were the vegetables and corn),” Miranda said.

Meanwhile, Typhoon “Maymay”, which also devastated Cagayan last week, dealt a total of P532,960,858 worth of damage to the province’s infrastructure and agriculture.

According to the Cagayan provincial disaster risk reduction and management office (PDRRMO), sthe infrastructure damage was pegged at P516.2 million while agricultural loss was estimated at P16,322,185.

Daan-Ili, Allacapan, Cagayan that got washed out; destroyed river bank, washed out gravel road, damaged multi-purpose building gymnasium, day care center, waiting shed, school buildings and health station in Lal-lo municipality; and the Alannay-Viga Bridge in Lasam town.

In the province’s agriculture, Typhoon Maymay destroyed rice worth P16 million and corn worth P318,000 from various municipalities while damage to fishery reached P438,673 due to overflowed fishponds.
