Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte announced on Sunday, Oct. 16, that she will attend the World Mayors Summit 2022 from Wednesday, Oct. 19, to Friday, Oct. 21, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Her attendance to the summit is part of the pledge of commitment signed by Belmonte during the launch of the Climate Action Implementation (CAI) program in collaboration with the C40 Cities last Aug. 11.
Belmonte will join more than 70 other mayors at the summit.
The city government said the summit will discuss "inclusive, sustainable, and job-creating recovery from COVID-19, the well-being of city residents, and increased green financing to cities."
Quezon City Vice Mayor Gian Sotto will be the acting city mayor and Councilor Bernard Herrera will be acting vice mayor while Belmonte is out of the country.
Sotto and Herrera are expected to manage the city's affairs and supervise the administrative and operational agenda under their respective jurisdictions, apart from cases related to policymaking, said the city government.
The C40 World Mayors Summit is the triennial climate action conference organized and will be a hybrid in-person and virtual event.
The C40 Cities is a global network of mayors composed of 96 world cities taking action to solve the climate crisis.
Quezon City is the only city in the Philippines that is part of the C40 Cities since 2015.
