Operatives from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested a man for attempted homicide after he allegedly hit another man’s head with a stone and a steel pipe in Novaliches, Quezon City on Sunday, Oct. 16.
Lt. Col. Von June Nuyda, QCPD Novaliches Station (PS 4) commander, identified the suspect as Justo Albert Cajara Ortiz, 25, from Barangay Bagbag in Novaliches, Quezon City.
The victim, Jeffrey Lopez Palma, was talking to his companion, Albert Looc Candau, at the corner of Remarville and Artemio Streets in barangay Bagbag at around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday when the suspect suddenly approached them.
Police said Ortiz, motivated by an old grudge, hit Palma’s head with a concrete stone twice which caused the victim to fall to the ground.
It added that Palma was able to pick up a steel pipe to defend himself. However, the suspect managed to take the pipe from him and used it to hit his head again.
The suspect immediately escaped while the victim was rushed by barangay public safety officers to the Quezon City General Hospital for medical treatment.
Responding PS-4 personnel immediately conducted a follow-up operation which resulted in the suspect’s arrest. The 28 inches long steel pipe was also confiscated from Ortiz.
Ortiz will be charged for attempted homicide before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, police said.
