Classes resume in 2 Himamaylan City barangays after series of encounters
BACOLOD CITY – The city government of Himamaylan, Negros Occidental announced on Monday, Oct. 17, the resumption of classes in Barangays Carabalan and Cabadiangan beginning Wednesday, Oct. 19, after a series of encounters between the military and communist guerrillas.
Mayor Raymund Tongson Jr. issued and signed an executive order on Sunday, Oct. 16, following a consultation with the Department of Education (DepEd) which recommended the resumption of classes in the two barangays, except for students residing in Sitios Campayas, Medel, and Sig-ang in Barangay Carabalan, who will be provided with modules in various evacuation centers where they are temporarily staying.
Classes in the two barangays were suspended since Oct. 6 when the first encounter between the Army 94th Infantry Battalion (IB) and the New People’s Army (NPA) erupted in Barangay Carabalan, which also affected a portion of Barangay Cabadiangan.
On Oct. 15, the Philippine Army allowed thousands of residents, who were affected and displaced by the series of encounters from Oct. 6 to 12, to return to their houses.
