8 soldiers killed in truck accident in Masbate


LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Eight soldiers were killed when their truck toppled and smashed into a parked cement mixer after one of its tires burst on Sunday night, Oct. 16, in Uson, Masbate.

The KM450 truck with 14 soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Battalion was on its way to Barangay Paguihaman in Uson to deliver supplies when its left rear tire burst.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, turned over, and crashed into a parked cement mixer.

Six soldiers died on the spot while two others perished while being treated in a hospital.

Six soldiers sustained injuries from the impact.

Army Capt. John Paul Belleza, spokesman of the 9th Infantry Division, said the fatalities will be identified as soon as the battalion commander gives the go-ahead and their families are notified.
