STS Neneng now moving away from Babuyan Islands; to exit PAR on Sunday evening – PAGASA
Severe tropical storm Neneng (international name: Nesat) is now moving away from Babuyan Islands, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday morning, Oct. 16.
“Neneng will continue moving westward or west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea until , it will then turn and move generally west southwestward or southwestward for the remainder of tomorrow through Wednesday morning,” said PAGASA in its 8 a.m. bulletin.
“On the forecast track, it may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight,” it added.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 is still hoisted over the southern portion of Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Winds of greater than 89 kilometers per hour (kph) up to 117 kph may affect these areas within 18 hours.
Wind Signal No. 2 was raised over the rest of Batanes, the rest of Cagayan, Apayao, the northern portion of Abra, and Ilocos Norte. Residents of these areas were told to prepare against gale-force winds greater than 62 kph and up to 88 kph in at least 24 hours.
Areas under TCWS No. 1 include the northern and central portions of Isabela, Kalinga, the rest of Abra, Mountain Province, the northern portion of Ifugao, and the northern and central portions of Ilocos Sur. Strong winds and intermittent rains may prevail in the aforementioned areas in 36 hours.
Neneng, according to the state weather bureau, maintained its strength while traversing the Philippine sea at 20 kph. Further intensification of the weather disturbance is likely.
“The center of STS Neneng was estimated in the vicinity of Calayan, Cagayan. maximum sustained winds of 95 kph and gustiness of up to 115 kph,” said PAGASA.
Heavy rainfall will persist in Apayao, Ilocos Norte, and the northern portion of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands until Sunday afternoon.
