Fire hits homes in Malabon City

A fire broke out in a residential area in Barangay Tonsuya, Malabon City, early Sunday morning, Oct. 16.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire started at around 1:50 a.m.

It was raised to second alarm at around 1:59 a.m. and escalated to third alarm at around 2:14 a.m.

The fire was declared under control at around 5:42 a.m. It was extinguished at around 6:33 a.m.

Arson probers are yet to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

It reached the third alarm because the houses in the area were made of light materials, which caused the fire to spread quickly. The Malabon City DRRMO (Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office) immediately dispatched two ambulances and a water tanker to assist the BFP and other firefighters),” the Malabon City government said in a Facebook post.

Patuloy ang pagtanggap sa fire evacuees sa Tonsuya Covered Court bilang pansamantala nilang matutuluyan (Based on the report, 62 houses were destroyed by fire, affecting 110 families or 560 individuals),” it added.

It said that fire evacuees are welcome to stay at the Tonsuya Covered Court for temporary shelter.

The city government also assured that it is now preparing to assist and provide hot meals for the victims.

This is a developing story.
