DepED condemns the death of a school principal in Albay
The Department of Education (DepED) in Region V (Bicol) strongly condemned the death of a high school principal in Albay and called on the authorities to “bring justice” to its personnel.

In a statement, DepED Bicol said it was informed of a shooting incident that happened last week that resulted in the death of its personnel and coordinated with the authorities.
“We condemn this act of violence against our teacher,” DepEd said. “We are deeply saddened of this tragic incident,” it added.
DepEd Bicol noted that the Schools Division Superintendent of Albay was immediately informed about the incident and was asked to speak with the local authorities and possibly speak with the family of the victim so we could identify what immediate assistance the department can extend.
“We are hoping that the swift and appropriate action of the local PNP will bring justice to the death of our personnel,” it added.
In a separate statement, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) also condemned the killing of the said principal who is also a volunteer of the humanitarian organization.
PRC identified the victim as Beverly Cabaltera, 53, the principal of Pio Duran National High School in Albay.
Cabaltera, a mother of three, wife of a policeman, and an educator, was a “youth adviser” for the Red Cross who has led efforts into the nearby islands during disasters.
“Our teachers prepare the youth of our country and we strongly condemn acts of violence against them,” PRC said as it urged local and regional law enforcers to “swiftly identify and punish” the offenders.
