3 Pisay-Davao students bag awards in 2022 IMUN conferences


Three students from the Philippine Science High School - Southern Mindanao Campus (PSHS-SMC) in Tugbok, Davao emerged as winners in three different 2022 international Model United Nations (MUN) conferences, the PSHS system said on Saturday, Oct. 15.

According to PSHS, high school and college students from various countries such as the United States, Russia, New Zealand, Singapore, Ireland, Ecuador, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Japan, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Luxembourg, Nepal, Malaysia, Lithuania, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, Italy, Qatar, Uruguay, Latvia, Thailand, China, and Bhutan among others joined the said MUNs.

Three students namely, Gabrielle Dwane C. Daquioag, Keene Yael A. Dampal, and Marita Natasha P. Bautista. exhibited their world-class critical thinking, communication, and diplomacy skills.

Participating in the Joint Crisis Committee, Daquioag received the Best Delegate Award in the North American Invitation Model United Nations - Southeast Asia IV.

Meanwhile, Dampal and Bautista got the Highest Distinction Award in the International Model United Nations Sustainable Development Goal and Climate Change Olympiad 2022.

Dampal and Bautista also bagged the Highest Distinction Award in the International Model United Nations UN Trivia Olympiad 2022.

Discussing Human Rights in Palestine and the Relationship with Israel, Bautista received Special Mention Award of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) committee.

According to PSHS-SMC coach Ariane Lou Sanchez, Model United Nations (MUN) simulations are popular exercises for those interested in learning more about UN diplomatic procedures.

“MUN international competitions give the Pisay scholars an opportunity to exercise roles of responsible citizenship and leadership by organizing a platform for their engagement in meaningful research, inclusive conferences, and constructive discussions patterned after the framework of the United Nations (UN),” said Sanchez.

“True to its mission, PSHS aims to create a growing community of scholars and teachers who are skillful in communicating multidisciplinary and global perspectives in a spirit of integrity, mutual respect, cooperation, tact, inclusivity, and diplomacy while providing research-based solutions to contemporary issues affecting our community and the world at large,” added Sanchez.
