Signal No. 1 raised over parts of Luzon; TD Neneng's landfall scenario not ruled out
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was hoisted in selected Luzon areas due to tropical depression Neneng.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday afternoon, Oct. 14, raised wind alarm no. 1 over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, the eastern portion of Apayao, and the northern portion of Isabela due to Neneng.

Residents of these areas were told to brace for possible strong winds within 36 hours which may bring “minimal to minor threat” to life and property.
Last spotted 795 kilometers (km) east of Calayan, Cagayan, the weather disturbance was packing winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph), gustiness of up to 70 kph, and is moving west-southwestward at 10 kph.
Hazards, forecast track
The effects of Neneng, particularly light to moderate with at times heavy rains, may be felt over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, and Ilocos Norte as early as Saturday morning, Oct. 15.
Meanwhile, on Saturday afternoon, moderate to heavy with at times heavy rains may be experienced in Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
The state weather bureau likewise added that Neneng is expected to “further intensify” while traversing the Philippine sea, adding that it may still make landfall or “pass very close” in Babuyan Islands or Batanes on Sunday, Oct. 16.
“Neneng is forecast to move westward before turning west northwestward on Sunday. On the forecast track, the tropical cyclone is forecast to maintain this heading until it makes landfall or passess very close in Babuyan Islands or Batanes,” said PAGASA.
"Afterwards, Neneng will move generally west northwestward and may exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday, ,” it added.
