Another high-ranking official in government has taken up the cudgels for Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla, saying there's no need for him to resign.

"This call for SOJ (Secretary of Justice) Remulla’s resignation is premature and unnecessary," House Majority Leader and Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Mannix Dalipe said in a statement on Friday night, Oct. 14.

"It will only muddle the case of his son who is already a consenting adult. The SOJ holds a position of trust and as long as the President trusts him and sees him as an effective member of the Cabinet, I see no reason for him to resign," he added.

Dalipe made these remarks after news broke out that Secretary Remulla's eldest son, the 38-year-old Juanito Jose Diaz Remulla III, had been arrested by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agents during an anti-illegal drugs operation in Las Piñas City.

The elder Remulla has since said that he would neither intervene nor influence his son's drug case.

Netizens have called for the DOJ chief's resignation over the incident.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. himself has said that Remulla doesn't need to resign.
