A man who jumped from a roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessel allegedly to take his own life was rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) off Calapan, Oriental Mindoro.

A report from the PCG dated Friday, Oct. 14, identified the rescued man as Jomer Castillo, 23, of Brgy. Lemon Nort, Odiongan, Romblon.
According to the PCG report, Castillo was travelling onboard MV Reina Del Rosario when he suddenly jumped off the vessel in the vicinity waters off Baco Chico Island last Oct. 10.
The "man overboard" incident was reported to PCG District Southern Tagalog, which immediately dispatched search and rescue (SAR) team.
Man overboard is an exclamation given aboard a vessel to indicate that a member of the crew or a passenger has fallen off of the ship into the water and is in need of immediate rescue.
The SAR team Castillo "swimming away from the vessel" as they pulled him out of the water.
"As per result of the investigation conducted, the victim was suffering from anxiety due to family problem which caused him to commit suicide by jumping to the sea," the PCG disclosed.
Castillo was brought by the SAR team to the Port of Calapan where he was transferred to a hospital for proper medication.
