Minor linked to death of Filipino store clerk arrested in Los Angeles, USA

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrested a 13-year old boy who was allegedly among the group of teenagers who beat a Filipino store clerk to death in Highland Park, Los Angeles, California last Oct. 6.

According to ABC News, the LAPD withheld the identity of the suspect because he was a minor.

The 68-year old victim, identified as Steven Reyes, tried to stop some teenagers from shoplifting beer and other items in the store where he worked.

One of the suspects hit Reyes’ head with a scooter during their altercation.

Reyes died shortly after in the hospital.

The LAPD urged the public to help them identify and locate the three other suspects – one male and two females.

Reyes’ family held a vigil and set up a memorial for him beside the store, where friends, relatives, and colleagues offered flowers and letters.

A GoFundMe fundraising page was also created to help the family financially.
