Mayor Joy condoles with family of slain traffic enforcer

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte condoled with the family of the traffic enforcer who was shot dead by a police officer along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), Brgy. Veterans VIllage, in the city on Thursday Oct. 13.

“On behalf of the entire Quezon City local government, I would like to offer our sincerest and most heartfelt sympathies to the family of our slain traffic enforcer, Edgar Abad Follero,” the mayor said.

“Before he was killed, Edgar was known to be a helpful, friendly, and dutiful member of the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS). Indeed, his last minutes were spent assisting someone in need, specifically a delivery rider whose motorcycle had broken down,” Belmonte added.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said Follero, a member of the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), was allegedly gunned down by the suspect in front of Munoz Market along EDSA at around 3:40 a.m. while he was helping a friend fix a motorcycle.

The QCPD Masambong Station (PS 2) identified the suspect as Lt. Felixberto Rapana Tiquil, assigned to the Manila Police District (MPD) - Anti -Carnapping Unit (MPD-DACU).

Police said the victim was still able to ask for help from police officers in the area despite his gunshot wound. He was rushed to the Quezon City General Hospital where he was declared dead-on-arrival.

“While the motive for his shooting still remains unknown, two Quezon City Police Department (QCPD) officers were quick to respond at the scene of the crime, and immediately arrested the suspect,” Belmonte said.

Recovered from the suspect were his 9mm Glock G17 GEN4 firearm loaded with 11 bullets, a cartridge, and a fired bullet.

Tiquil is currently under police custody while investigation on the incident is on-going.

“Needless to say, we assure the Follero family and all peace loving QCitizens that we will do everything to ensure that justice will be served without any prejudice,” the mayor said.
