Caloocan gov’t holds 'Family Day Celebration’ for rescued street children

The Caloocan City Social Welfare Development Department (CSWDD) on Thursday, Oct. 13, held a Family Day Celebration for the rescued street children and children in conflict with the law (CICL) at the Amparo Nature Park, in Barangay 179, Caloocan City - North.

Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan said the activity aims to provide recreation to children and their families.

“Nais natin na maiparamdam sa ating mga kabataan ang kahalagahan ng pamilya, lalo’t ito ang pundasyon ng isang matatag na komunidad. Sa simpleng araw na inilaan natin sa kanila, sana’y nag-enjoy sila sa pakikisalamuha sa kanilang mga kapwa-bata (We want our young people to feel the importance of family, especially since it is the foundation of a strong community. On the day that we dedicated to them, I hope they enjoyed socializing with their fellow children),” Mayor Along said.

“Kabuuang 70 na kabataan po ang nakilahok sa ating programa. Libre po ang snacks, mayroon din tayong palaro at ang iba po’y nagswimming pa. Sila po’y galing sa ating drop-in centers at mga shelters sa Tahanang Magpala and Social Development Center sa Brgy 171 (A total of 70 youths participated in our program. We gave them free snacks and we had some games and the others even went swimming. They are from our drop-in centers and shelters at Tahanang Magpala and Social Development Center in Brgy 171),” CSWDD Officer-in-Charge Roberto Quizon said.

The CSWDD will also conduct another Family Day Celebration on Thursday, Oct. 20, at Buena Park, Barangay 80 in South Caloocan for the street children and their families, as well as for those residing in Bahay Pag-asa (a home for the rescued CICLs in the city), the city government said.
