Criminal Investigation Detection Group elements and Special Action Force were serving warrants of arrest for murder and kidnapping-for-ransom against suspects Alganer Dawadil Dahim and Alal Jil Ismin Jupakkal when Jupakkal sensed the arrival of the lawmen.

Dahil’s group fired towards the approaching arresting team, prompting the police to fire back.

He and his cohorts escaped but Jupakkal sustained bullet wounds and was left behind.

Jupakkal was taken to the provincial hospital in Sulu where he was pronounced dead.

Dahim and Jupakkal allegedly provided the pumpboat to the group of Apoh Mike, an Abu Sayyaf sub-leader, in the abduction of five Indonesians in Tawi-Tawi in March 2021.

The suspects, followers of Abu Sayyaf sub-leaders Albader Parad and the late Apoh Mike, are said to be involved in narco-terrorism and extortion activities in Parang and Indanan, Sulu.
