PH consulate in Hawaii grieves over death of slain staffer

The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Hawaii will be holding a tribute to one of its staff who died in the island state.

In a statement, the PCG said it grieves with immense sadness the loss of its beloved employee, Teresita Canilao, 76, who was a long-time and a valued colleague in the Consulate.

She was also a “vibrant presence in local community presence.”

The tribute as well as a mass will be held on Oct. 15 at 12:30 p.m. (Hawaii time) at the Co-Cathedral of Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus.

Citing court documents, local news reports on Hawaii said Lacanilao died after supposedly being beaten to death.

Local police filed murder charges against her estranged husband.

"We are heartbroken to learn of her sudden death and extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the family during this difficult time," PCG said.
