Mayor Sandoval demands action on unpaid salaries of CMU teachers

Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said on Thursday, Oct. 13, that she demanded an immediate action on the delayed release of honorarium and salaries of the professors and teachers of City of Malabon University (CMU).

“I take this issue seriously and demand that a thorough investigation be undertaken to ensure that the situation will be rectified,” Mayor Sandoval said.

The mayor's call for investigation came following several reports of unpaid wages of CMU lecturers for over three months.

Dr. Glenn de Vera de Leon, CMU Vice President for Academic Affairs, also expressed his disappointment.

"The increasing cost of commodities is extremely tough for our professors and teachers. Our faculty cannot afford another delay so we had to escalate this to City Hall," De Leon said.

Meanwhile, Malabon City Hall Administrator Alex Rosete issued a 72-hour ultimatum to CMU’s Human Resources Office to explain the delayed salaries of the university teachers.

Malabon City Hall’s Human Resources chief, Atty. Regina Casidsid-Portento, was assigned to ensure that CMU will return all unpaid payroll before the business hours end this week.

Mayor Sandoval said that she will continue to aim for an upstanding governance in her administration and in institutions like City of Malabon University, which has been actively tagged in political issues.

“The people of Malabon deserve a progressive city and that starts with an honest and trustworthy administration, which holds her executives accountable. We owe it to the people!," the mayor added.
