Best style moments at Paris Fashion Week spring-summer 2023

From desert chic to an ode to French royalty, here are some of our favorite collections from the recent fashion fest in Paris

Pieces from Chanel, Balenciaga, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Balmain, and Dior

Saint Laurent

Creative director Anthony Vaccarello served sophistication and glamor for Saint Laurent’s spring-summer 2023 collection. Leather jackets with strong shoulders, hooded dresses, and sexy sheer pieces dominated its collection with the iconic Eiffel Tower as its backdrop.

Balmain

Playing with the theme “Renaissance,” creative director Oliver Rousteing’s latest collection for Balmain is "inspired by the great philosophers of the time and their ability to transform society with new ways of thinking and creating.” Opening the show were couture pieces with intricate silhouettes. Artworks were depicted on dresses and corsets, while new draping, braiding, and patchworked pieces also graced the runway.

Loewe

The anthurium plant became the guiding inspiration for Jonathan Anderson’s collection for Loewe. The floral detail was seen on a variety of dresses and footwear. Also taking the spotlight were separates in pixelated prints, as well as shirts and chinos that are padded, elongated, and reproportioned.

Hermès

Desert chic–-that’s what womenswear creative director Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski’s collection for Hermès was all about. Shown at the Tennis Club de Paris, the runway show was like a "dance in the desert" with pieces in acid-bright shades of dusk.

Balenciaga

Balenciaga’s “The Mud Show” by Demna Gvasalia continues to present his ironic take on fashion. Models wearing oversized pieces, chunky shoes, vibrant sweats, and contemporary long gowns walked its muddy set, which is “a metaphor for digging for truth and being down to earth.”

Valentino

After his pink runway show, Pierpaolo Piccioli returns to neutral with Valentino’s spring-summer 2023 collection. Titled “Unboxing Valentino,” the runway show featured a play on minimalism and maximalism with classic silhouettes presenting the house monogram as its prime print.

Chanel

The beauty of cinema was highlighted at Chanel’s spring-summer 2023 presentation. Exploring a freedom of movement and expression—embodied by the brand’s muse Kristen Stewart—creative director Virginie Viard imagined a collage of glamor, swirling with modernity and lightness.

Louis Vuitton

Putting femininity in the spotlight, Nicolas Ghesquiere’s latest collection for Louis Vuitton emphasized proportions, where the infinitely large and infinitely small come together in one silhouette.

Dior

Catherine de' Medici, queen consort of Henry II of France, is the prime inspiration for Maria Grazia Churi’s spring-summer 2023 collection for Dior. Present on the show were embroidered lace pannier skirt and bra top, reimagined sportswear, and gold gloves, among other divine Baroque-Goth-inspired pieces.
