Notorious robber in Cebu City back in jail less than a month after release

CEBU CITY — Old habits die hard for this known robber.

Jerlan Cañete Sabanal, a resident of Barangay Ermita here where he is known as “Boy Langaw,” was arrested again less than a month after he was released from jail.

Sabanal was nabbed at dawn on Tuesday, Oct. 11, after police caught him carrying a firearm in Barangay Ermita.

Major Kenneth Albotra, chief of the Carbon Police Station, said Sabanal was jailed for 12 years for various offenses such as robbery, illegal possession of firearms, theft, and drugs.

Albotra said Sabanal was arrested after they received a report that an armed man was spotted walking on Magallanes St.

Police rushed to the area and spotted a person, which turned to be Sabanal, with an object bulging in his waist.

When police frisked him, they found a loaded .357 revolver from his possession.

Col. Ireneo Dalogdog, chief of the Cebu City Police Office, said Sabanal was identified as the one who robbed a man on P. del Rosario St. in Barangay Kamagayan on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Dalogdog said a vendor witnessed the commotion and identified Sabanal when investigators showed him a photo of the suspect.

“The suspect is in and out of jail because of robbery charges,” Dalogdog said.
