The independent OCTA Research Group on Wednesday, Oct. 12, said the Covid-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila has dropped further to 17.3 percent on Oct. 10.

In an update shared on Twitter, OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David noted that Metro Manila’s positivity rate was down to 17.3 percent on Oct. 10, from 19 percent on Oct. 3.

He earlier said that a peak positivity rate of 19.1 percent was recorded in Metro Manila on Oct. 1.

Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who have been tested for Covid-19.

The World Health Organization-recommended positivity rate is 5 percent or less to show that the spread of the virus is under control.

Moreover, David said that Metro Manila’s reproduction number—or the average number of secondary infections per infected individual—has dropped to 0.93 from 0.99.

The region’s one-week growth rate in cases was at negative (-) 16 percent, while the health care utilization rate remains low at 37 percent.

“Let's hope the downward trend continues the rest of the year,” David said.
