JB Bahio, James Kwekuteye lead San Beda past Perpetual

JB Bahio and James Kwekuteye once again formed a deadly one-two punch and led San Beda with a 71-52 drubbing of Perpetual to cap its first-round campaign on a bright note in the NCAA Season 98 men's basketball tournament Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

JB Bahio of the San Beda Red Lions drives past Kim Aurin of the Perpetual Altas (NCAA/GMA)

Bahio led all scorers with 16 points on top of eight rebounds while Kwekuteye had a double-double performance of 12 points and 11 rebounds as the Red Lions vented their ire on the Altas following a tough 78-69 loss at the hands of league leaders College of St. Benilde Blazers last Oct. 9.

With the win, San Beda finished its first-round assignment with a 6-3 record, tying up with former champion Letran.

Bahio and Kwekuteye took charge as early in the first half where they ended up tallying 10 points apiece to put the Lions up by 36-24 heading into the third period.

San Beda even led by as many as 22 points even as Justine Sanchez joined in the fray and chalked up 12 points on a 5-of-7 shooting from the field.

The payoff period saw a lopsided affair as the Altas couldn't put a stop on the Lions' assault, showing little to no resistance down the stretch.

San Beda made sure to close out the match as solid as possible and never looked back at that point.

JP Boral paced the Altas, who shared an identical 4-5 record with Arellano, with 14 points along with six rebounds while veteran Kim Aurin chipped in 10 points and six rebounds as well.
