BUGUEY, Cagayan – A 44-year-old fisherman reportedly drowned at the sea of this town on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Sheena Talla, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head, said the victim, Marcial Pugal, 44, of Barangay Quinawegan, this town, went fishing early Tuesday at the height of heavy rains from tropical depression “Maymay.”
However, Pugal was unable to return home at 7 a.m. and his family reported him missing to the MDRRMO.
The MDRRMO conducted a search and rescue operation with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Talla said they first found fishing gear and some parts of the victim's boat and Pugal’s body later on.
The MDRRMO-Buguey continues to monitor their area and conduct information dissemination to avoid such incident from happening again.
Authorities reminded residents not to venture out to sea during inclement weather for their safety.
