ABUCAY, Bataan (PNA) – Three persons died while 34 others were injured when a passenger bus and an oil tanker collided on the Roman Highway here before dawn on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Major Dennis Duran, Abucay police chief, identified the fatalities as Walter Buenaventura, 50, Bataan Transit bus driver; Reynaldo Monte, 49, oil tanker driver; and a still unidentified male passenger of the oil tanker.
Police said that the passenger bus, with 40 passengers on board, was traveling from Balanga City to Manila when it collided head-on with the incoming oil tanker in Barangay Laon at 2:30 a.m.
Duran said the oil tanker occupied the inner fast lane of the opposite lane and failed to notice the approaching bus, resulting in the smashup.
Senior Master Sgt. Alex Buenaventura, Abucay police investigator, said injured passengers of the bus, including the conductor, and one helper of the oil tanker were rushed to different hospitals in the province while the two drivers and the unidentified oil tanker passenger died on the spot.
Bus passenger Raymond Pariñas, 34, of Limay, Bataan, said he was using his cellular phone when his head hit the handle of the bus seat.
“I was just shocked when the bus suddenly stopped and I hit my head, I thought my seat just pulled back but someone shouted 'I'm bleeding.' Then I saw another colleague also wounded in the arm and bleeding, and another one with bloodied head,” Pariñas said in an interview.
He said he was with a group of 15 bound for Manila and all of them were hurt.
“Others have cuts, others have bruises," Pariñas said.
Police said investigation on the incident is ongoing.
