Petro Gazz survives Choco Mucho to nail first win

Petro Gazz survived Choco Mucho’s late rallies with a 27-25, 25-22, 28-26 triumph Tuesday night, Oct. 11, in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Lindsey Vander Weide exploded for 25 points built on 20 kills, three blocks and two aces to steer the Angels to their first win.

Petro Gazz squandered three match points but pulled through as Choco Mucho import Odina Aliyeva served into the net and fired a hit in the ensuing play that likewise failed to clear the center line, enabling the 2019 champions to squeak out the tough win that forced an early four-way tie for the lead among PLDT, Cignal and Chery Tiggo.

Jonah Sabete also stepped up for the Angels with 14 points, 14 digs and 11 receptions.

It was a sorry defeat for Choco Mucho, who controlled the early going of the first two sets but failed to sustain its momentum.

Aliyeva scored 26 points in a losing effort for the Flying Titans while Des Cheng had 10 points.
