LPA east of Luzon develops into tropical depression Maymay; another cyclone monitored outside PAR

The low pressure area (LPA) east of Casiguran, Aurora intensified into a tropical depression on Monday, Oct. 10, and will be locally known as “Maymay,” said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA said that tropical cyclone bulletins will be issued starting at 5 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the LPA outside the country’s area of responsibility has also developed into a tropical depression on Monday evening.

In the 11 p.m. bulletin released on Monday, PAGASA said the tropical depression was last seen 1,620 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, and was moving west-southwest at a speed of 55 kilometers per hour (kph).

It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

PAGASA said it will likely enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Thursday morning, Oct. 13.

Once inside the PAR, the tropical depression will be given the domestic name "Neneng."
