DMW shuts down firm over alleged dubious Europe, Canada job offers to OFWS
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Tuesday, Oct. 11, shut down a Makati-based consultancy firm that allegedly engages in illegal recruitment activities on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) wishing to go to Europe and Canada.
DMW Secretary Susan Ople led the serving of a closure order against K-Monster Inc., located at 2F Cedar Executive Building 1006 Antonio Arnar Avenue, in Barangay San Lorenzo, Makati City.

Ople was joined by operatives of the DMW's Anti-Illegal Recruitment Branch (AIRB), Makati police, and barangay officials.
It was learned that the firm has been offering consultancy services for education, immigration, and employment.
The firm’s head office in South Korea is billed as an international talent solutions provider or staffing agency with an existing tie-up with a local recruitment agency with approved job orders in Canada, Poland the US, and Papua New Guinea.
Ople said that based on DMW’s investigation, K-Monster has been allegedly collecting “advance processing” fees from their victims ranging from P80,000 to P220,000.
She added that K-Monster has been offering jobs for hotel workers, room attendants, cashiers, waiters, caregivers, and factory workers in Poland, Canada, and the Netherlands.
The AIRB said K-Monster does not have a license to recruit workers.
Ople reiterated her stern statement against illegal recruiters: “The DMW is determined to protect our kababayans from the activities of illegal recruiters. At the same time, we ask that they remain vigilant and always check with the DMW before engaging the services of any company or establishment that promises jobs abroad.
Meanwhile, Ople advised OFWs to transact only with officials and registered employees of the DMW to avoid being victimized by fixers and illegal recruiters.
OFWs can also check of details and backgrounds of recruitment agencies before engaging in pre-employment documentation.
"I-check n'yo ng mabuti ang mga inaaplayan ny'ong agency (Check carefully the agencies you are applying to). Transact only to the firms with high integrity and with a good record and standing," Ople said.
