The suggested retail price (SRP) of red onions in Metro Manila wet markets is now P170 per kilogram, the Department of Agriculture (DA) revealed on Monday, Oct. 10.

Agriculture Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban, through Administrative Circular 09, set the SRP of red onions sold in the National Capital Region (NCR).
In setting the SRP, the agriculture department cited the “effects of rising fuel prices due to the Russia-Ukraine war which was aggravated by the pandemic cause high prices of agricultural commodities.”
“n order not to aggravate the current difficulties of the Filipino people affected by the pandemic and rising fuel prices, there is a need to guide the consuming public on the reasonable prices of basic necessities in the market,” the circular, dated Oct. 7, stated.
According to the most recent statistics from the DA, as of Friday, Oct. 7, , the average price for local red onions in Metro Manila marketplaces was P200 per kilogram.
In September, the DA announced that over P100 million in assistance was provided to onion farmers as the national government works to stabilize its domestic production.
The DA said the assistance package would take the form of interventions to boost productivity and ensure that onion farmers' cooperatives and associations (FCAs) have ready markets for their produce.
