DOLE distributes P10.6-M employment, livelihood aid in Iloilo
A total of 2,153 informal workers in Carles, Iloilo were given emergency employment and livelihood grant amounting to over P10.6 million, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported on Monday, Oct 10.
According to DOLE Region 6 Regional Director Popoy T. Rodriguez, Jr., beneficiaries are from the nine island barangays of Carles town.

The DOLE RO 6 -Iloilo Field Office (IFO) led the payout of wages to some 2,096 informal workers from Barangays Bitoon, Punta Batuanan, Tinigban, Barangcalan, Alipata, San Fernando, Buaya, and Isla de Caña.
Rodriguez said P9,432,000 was distributed to the beneficiaries of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
Each of the beneficiaries got P4,500 for 10-day community work such as coastal cleanup, cleaning, and clearing of barangay surroundings, road canals, tree planting, and gardening.
Through the TUPAD program, residents here took part in helping in the promotion of local tourism, Rodriguez noted.
Meanwhile, a total of 57 marginalized fisherfolk in the island barangay of Talingting were also given a livelihood project.
Through the DOLE's Cage (Tangkal) Livelihood Project, fishermen were given two service boats, fishing nets, equipment, and other tools they needed for fishing.
According to Rodriguez, the livelihood grant totaled P1,229,042.
