ZAMBOANGA CITY – The annual Regatta de Zamboanga was featured by Google in its homepage on Sunday, Oct. 9, the day the traditional boat race was held here.
In its website, Google wrote, “Celebrating the Regatta de Zamboanga.”
“Today’s Doodle celebrates Regatta de Zamboanga, an annual sailing competition from the southern part of the Philippines.”
“Every October, thousands of people gather along the kilometer-long stretch of R.T. Lim Boulevard in Zamboanga City to watch hundreds of vintas and their colorful sails race across the coastline. The event is the highlight of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival honoring its patron saint, the La Virgen Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza,” Google added.
Google described its doodles as the “fun, surprising, and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists.”
The Google idea originated in 1998.
The doodles are chosen from hundreds of requests and proposals received by Google everyday to be drawn in their honor or to celebrate events or personalities.
